Cada 21 de febrero se celebra el Día Internacional del Guía de Turismo, considerada como una profesión vital dentro del turismo. El guía promueve el potencial cultural, histórico y patrimonial de sitios de interés en una amplia variedad de países del mundo.
Los guías turísticos orientan e informan a turistas y visitantes sobre la cultura, la historia, la gastronomía y los sitios turísticos de cualquier rincón y lugar del planeta, por más recóndito que sea. Con su trabajo, contribuyen a impulsar el turismo, siendo una de las actividades económicas más importantes de las ciudades.
El Día Internacional del Guía de Turismo se celebra desde el año 1990, una efeméride que coincide con el día en que se creó la Federación Mundial de Guías Profesionales de Turismo, durante el desarrollo de la Convención Internacional de Guías Turísticos realizada en Austria en 1985.
